OVERSEAS ARRIVALS: IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU START YOUR JOURNEY THE DAY AFTER YOU ARRIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA. This enables you to get over your jet lag and it is possible to arrange a short half day tour if you feel up to it. The Meet and Greet staff will take you to your first nights B&B. COST OF THIS EXTRA NIGHT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ROUTE COST. Cost will be supplied on request.
- If you are travelling the country for the first time try and cover as much of it as you can but consider allowing us to book some rest days i.e. pick a route and then allow a few days break in an area which appeals to your personal interest, this allows you to catch your breath before you continue with your route or return home.
- Travel as light as possible utilising clothing that mix & match and are crease resistant. Remember for cold weather your can utilise a number of layers of clothing.
If possible look at travel TV program’s and read up as much as possible in advance. This enables you to take in much more when you actually arrive.
- On the question of safety, which applies anywhere, be vigilant at all times. Try not to look too much like a tourist and do not leave valuables where they can be seen. Take advice from your hosts should you not feel confident. Finally reading maps in public places is a tourist give away.
- Buy a reasonable size cool bag and a few cooling blocks which your hosts will put into their freezer each night. Very useful for on road food & water. A wet facecloth or similar in a plastic bag is also useful.
Finally for driving and other general tips refer to http://www.safrica.info The “Plan a Trip” and the following direct link to“South Africa Map” are particularly useful.
